not your grandma's doilies.

When the word crochet comes to mind, you might automatically think of the numerous doilies found at your grandmother's house. Let me assure you, these pieces are NOT something you'll see your grandma wearing. The crochet trend has become recently popular due to the 70's being heavily inserted into the trends this season. Numerous celebrities have been rocking this trend such as Nicole Richie, Rachel Bilson, Kate Bosworth and Miley Cyrus. Here are some of my favorite looks I've seen along with their more affordable counterparts.

Her Dress - $110 Our Entire Outfit - $163.90

Her Booties - $995 Our Entire Outfit - $107.74

Fedora, Tunic, Necklace, Clogs

Her Clogs - $110 Our Entire Outfit - $128.99

What do you think about this new trend? Are you okay with crochet, or do you think you'll stay away?

DIY, what a stud.

Celebrities rocking the infamous Burberry Trench

A couple weeks ago I did a post on stylish rain proof outfits. Although I usually make outfits with the viewers (and my own) budget in mind, I couldn't resist throwing in the $3,000 Burberry Studded Trench in one of the looks. What seemed like an untangible item, is now absolutely attainable thanks to a little DIY post done by Erica Domesek from  P.S. I Made This!

What you need:

-Pick up sushi (this might take a while so you'll need to eat!), along with about 100 chopsticks
-Go to your local craft store and pick up some gold paint & a glue gun (unless you're an avid DIYer, then you should have one already)
-Steal Borrow chalk from local neighborhood spawns children
-Find a hunky man willing to saw off all the tops of those 100 chopsticks
-Oh yeah, don't forget to get a trench coat!
-Last but not least, find some time & patience to actually start and complete this project!

Do you plan on trying this out for yourself? If so i'd love to see pictures of your finished products!

the dirty tees.

I'm always on the prowl looking for new music. Whether it's house, pop, trance, dubstep etc. Today I came across a very talented (and young) duo from Toronto. Ryan Freeman and Grant Peters have been collaborating together on remixes along with their own original music. Below is a video to better understand the minds behind The Dirty Tees. With their intense passion, unlimited inspiration and absolute dedication for music, I can only see great things coming from this pair. No doubt their future will be bright as the speed of light.

free-spirit meets tough chick.

Although I'm not one to follow trends, this one definitely caught my eye. I've been wanting to do a post on a celebrity outfit for less, and this seemed to be just the inspiration I needed. The (faux) leather jacket is perfect for day time or night time. It's definitely a must have piece, and is a well used staple in my closet. Combined with a feminine floral maxi skirt (another item on my must have list!), provides the perfect balance of tough girl chic, with a touch of feminine flare. Below are three looks I put together for under $100!

Look 1: jacket, skirt Look 2: jacket, skirt Look 3: jacket, skirt

What do you think of this new celebrity trend? Would you wear any of these looks?

spring/summer '11 shoe trends.

Spring is officially here, so I think it's the perfect time to dust off your sandals, get that (well deserved) pedicure and strut your stuff! For the past couple of years the big trend has been the gladiator sandal. Well this Spring/Summer there is a lot of new trends being seen on and off the runways. There are shoes for each and every personality, whether you are fun and flirty or a sassy fashionista!

Top: 1, 2 Middle: 3 Bottom: 45

This past Fall, clogs were one of the must have shoes of the season. Well to continue on with the 70's trend, we have its sister, the wooden platform. These shoes are super versatile and very affordable! (Psst I own #2!)

Top: 1, 2 Middle: 3 Bottom: 4, 5

At first when I think of loafers I honestly think old men or teachers, but after seeing this trend revamped I have to say I'm pretty excited! The bright fun colors and the different textures and patterns will give that extra kick to make any outfit pop!

Top: 1, 2 Middle: 3 Bottom: 4, 5

If you're anything like me, short and have a passion for heels, the wedge is for you! I LOVE a good wedge. These different colors and shapes will work with anything from skinny jeans to a fun flirty skirt. And to top it off, they're extremely comfy!

Top: 1, 2 Middle: 3 Bottom: 4, 5

Brogues, otherwise known as oxfords, have recently become popular over the last couple of years with the help of the menswear trend. Those black and white oxfords I wore in middle school were nowhere near as cute as these! I love the idea of mixing masculine and feminine pieces, but these shoes already has the best of both worlds!

Top: 1, 2 Middle: 3 Bottom: 4, 5

I'm always looking for the hottest and most unique heels; I think I found "IT". These heels are not only a fun burst of color but they're definitely going to be a conversation starter. This trend was a little harder for me to get my hands on, at an affordable price, but I did my best to not really exceed $100.

Top: 1, 2 Middle: 3 Bottom: 4, 5

When you think of a summer sandal espadrilles typically come to mind. Although you're probably thinking of the wedged form, this is the new and fresh take. These flat espadrilles come in a various amount of colors and patterns. This summer swap out your boring flats for these fun and comfortable espadrilles!

What are your take on these trends? Likes/dislikes? I hope this helps when you're on your quest for the perfect summer shoe(s)!!

hollywood glam.

When it comes to make up, there isn't anything more classic or beautiful then a cat eye and a red lip. Both looks can seem intimidating and hard to do but that's not true at all! The hardest part is just finding the right color red to compliment your skin tone and a foolproof eyeliner (along with some practice) to apply the purrfect cat eye.

I may be biased but i LOVE a good red lip! Nothing is more sexy, glamorous and sophisticated all in one. To find the perfect red lipstick it is important to first know what type of skin tone you have. Once you've figured out whether you are warm or cool, you can begin your quest for the ultimate red lipstick! Above and below are examples of the reds you should aim for. I personally use Lancome's Code Red and I can't even tell you how many compliments I've received when wearing it.

Warm Skin Tones: Orangey reds, Warm reds, Tomato reds, Brown based reds, Golden reds, Tawny reds.

Cool Skin Tones: Pink tones of red, Berry Reds, Blackberry Reds, Brick Reds, Blue tones of Red, Plum tones.

All Skin Tones: True Red (Think Fire Engine Red)

*Fun Fact: Red lipsticks with blue undertones will make your teeth look whiter!

When it comes to a cat eye, liquid liner is your friend. You want to start out by lining the inner corner of your eye. While keeping it close to the lash line, begin to drag the brush towards the outer corner of your eye. As you reach the end, flick your wrist towards your temple in order to achieve the perfect wing. If you extended the line too long, you can always use a q-tip to clean it up. For those who learn better visually (like myself) I posted a video below.

As for different liquid eyeliners I tend to go for the drugstore brands. Look for ones that have short brushes. The shorter the better. If you want to spice it up, you could opt for different colors other than black. Almay has different eyeliners that correspond specifically to your eye color. If liquid eyeliner isn't for you, I suggest you try gel liner and use a thin angled brush.

What's your take on red lipstick and liquid liner? Do you plan on trying it out for yourself? I hope this was helpful!

happy friday.

I figured I should probably write this post early seeing that it's going to be 72 today && I can't let that go to waste knowing that it's going to drop back down to the low 50's this week! I can't believe spring break is almost over. This week flew by at warp speed. With that being said, I figured I'd do something a little different this Friday. In honor of this gorgeous weather I wanted to highlight some of my favorite things (I'll most likely indulge in them all today =))

Food: With spring and summer on their way, I can't help but look forward to fun fruity drinks (with or without alcohol). One of my all time favorites has to be lemonade. It's so refreshing and super easy to make! It's great as is but when combined with other fruits (ie. raspberries), the combination is heavenly. Below are some recipes worth trying out for yourself!

Books: Since receiving a kindle for Christmas, I have become an avid reader and CANNOT wait to test it out this Summer while lounging out on the jersey shore beach! I don't tend to reread many books (unless they're my all time favs!) but I think I have to make an exception this time. Last year I got a hold of Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin and could not put it down! Recently a friend told me that the book has been turned into a movie and after seeing the trailer I can not wait to reread the book before the movie releases! If you haven't read the book I seriously suggest it, along with it's sister book Something Blue.

Music: As you know from my previous music posts I tend to favor songs that are remixed and this is no exception. I love love love Morgan Page and his remix of The Temper Trap's Sweet Disposition is so fun and upbeat! This is a definitely a song I would have blasting on my drive down the shore. Check it out along with his other songs.

bra bra bra braided.

my version of the milkmaid braid!

When it comes to hair, for me there's only one go to hairstyle: the braid. Braids are super super versatile. They can be simple or intricate as well as boho chic or uber glam. They work for every hair type, whether you have thin straight short hair or long thick curly locks. I think the braid craze really took off when LC (Lauren Conrad), started her cute little side braids, perfect for keeping your bangs out of your face, on The Hills. Since then braids have become the perfect accessory to make any look effortlessly cool or give a modern take on a updo for any red carpet event. Take a look below at the infinite braid possibilities. I didn't even know some of these were even possible!

Are you a fan of braids? Do you have a favorite look?

If you're not quite an expert on braids but you want to learn, there are a lot of great tutorials out there. I actually learned how to french braid through YouTube videos! If you want to try out some simple braids first I suggest you check out this tutorial!

DIY floral & striped nails.

As you can see from my previous posts, I kind of have this magnetic pull to floral print and stripes. After trying out the gel nail polish manicure for the past 2 months, I started to get antsy and decided to remove them (worst idea EVER). As a result of Sunday boredom I decided to paint my nails due to a little photo inspiration (How friggin' cute are those cupcakes!?) and tutorial help!

Base Colors: Brucci - Kathy's Baby Blues and Lou Lou's Peachy Creme
Leaves: Rimmel - Camouflage
Flowers: Petites - Coral Pink, Brucci - Lou Lou's Peachy Creme & Pure Ice - Superstar

Finished product! I think I could have been a little neater, but over all I'm pretty happy with the outcome =)

What do you think? Have you tried to paint your nails different patterns and designs?

pocket full of sunshine.

Well after the massive amount of rain we received the last couple of days, it was nice to see the sun come out to play! There's no better way to enjoy warm weather, at least for myself, than to drive around with the windows down and music blaring through the speakers. That being said, due to my lack of absence the last couple of days I have multiple songs to share with you!

Wet (David Guetta Remix Edit) by Fresh On Campus

I've been a fan of David Guetta ever since I heard "Love Is Gone", and he has yet to disappoint me since! When I saw that David Guetta posted a new song I was soo excited. Then I realized it was Snoop Dogg feat David Guetta and I was totally thrown off. When I think of Snoop Dogg I automatically think rap, not dance music, but after listening I have to admit that it totally works!

Kelly Rowland feat. Lil Wayne - Motivation (Diplo Remix) by We Are S.M.E Blog

When I saw Kelly Rowland, Lil Wayne AND Diplo's name all in one song I had to give it a go. After I heard Commander from Kelly's last album she quickly became one to watch out for when it comes to dance/club music! Anyone that is familiar with Tiesto (one of my all time favs!) should know Diplo from there collaboration on C'mon. And Lil Wayne...well need I say more? This is a song that has been slowly growing on me, especially Kelly's hook "And when we’re done, I don’t wanna feel my legs." Be sure to be on the look out for this song on Kelly's upcoming album this summer!

14. 4 Strings - Safe From Harm by Dj 3D

I don't know how familiar 4 Strings may be to everyone but this Trance duo has been on the dance scene for the last ten years with such hits as let it rainturn it around and take me away. I figured after two high energy songs, it would be nice to end with a more mellow song (seems like the quintessential spring song to me!)

I hope everyone enjoy(ed)s there spring break && the music!

nailed it.

This past September numerous designers came out to showcase their new Spring/Summer '11 collections. While most individuals tend to look forward to what's the new "it" piece of the season, I tend to favor the beauty trends, particularly nail polish. With Spring quickly approaching, it's time to put away all the dreary dark colors and opt for fun pastels, vibrant reds and oranges, barely there nudes, gunmetal grays and fun top coats!

Are you a nail polish fiend? Which color is a must have for you this season?

femme fatale.

We know her as the princess of pop, brit brit, or better known as Britney Spears. After almost two and a half years since her last album release (Circus), Brit's set to release Femme Fatale later this month (the 29th to be exact!). I could lie to you and say I'm not excited, but after hearing her first single Hold It Againt Me, in combination with the little samplings of what else she has to offer, all I can say is it's going to be a longgg 25 days. Until then I figured I can hold you over with the second single off the cd, Till The World Ends.

What do you think? Are you excited for Britney's comeback? Are the songs all you expected and more?

everything's coming up daisies.

Ahh spring is in the air, which means it's time for spring cleaning to make room for NEW clothes! There were a lot of new trends on the runway this past fall including vibrant oranges, wide leg trousers and the dreadful flatforms. Although I like to stay on top of trends, I have to say when spring time is near my go to prints are stripes and florals! I personally believe that neither will ever go out of style. They're both great on they're own, and even better when they're mixed together.

What do you think? Do you love florals, stripes or both?

about to bl0w.

I've been in desperate need for new songs to jam out in my car. As usual the radio was blasting on my way to class, but to my surprise a song came on that I actually haven't heard before. I'm not a huge fan of KE$HA, but I have to admit that she has some really catchy songs. Of course I think every song sounds better when it's remixed. Let me know what you think.

Ke$ha Blow (Cirkut Remix) by drluke

Do you prefer the original, or are remixes always better?
